One of the biggest trends in during the COVID-19 quarantine has been the uptick in streaming with those near and far. To date, those that have launched have focused on either letting you stream on your computer or your mobile device. Enter Caavo, best known for their universal remote, who is bringing watch parties to your TV.
Unlike others, you can create a Watch Party (it only works for Netflix for now), and then it automatically detects and syncs with your Apple TV or Roku device. That means, you can still sit back on your couch and watch your favorite shows at the same time as your family or friends. If you prefer to watch from a laptop or desktop computer, you can use the Watch With Friends Chrome extension.
After you set-up a Watch Party, the host can pause or seek from the in-app remote, and can also set-up a chat with those joining in. The company expects to add additional streaming apps soon.
With the on-going pandemic, streaming services have doubled down on making it easy to watch with friends and family near and far. Late last month, Amazon announced their “Watch Party” feature for up to 100 friends across there Prime Video library. In May, Hulu launched a “Watch Party” feature for their ad-free subscribers. Popular third-party apps like NetflixParty and Scener that have filled the void on services like Netflix and HBO.
