‘Covid Is No Joke’ to Stream on YouTube, Comedy Benefit Raises Money for Health Workers

Hollywood is raising spirits and much-needed funds for those on the front lines of the pandemic.

The “Covid Is No Joke” comedy benefit streams live May 1, 8 p.m. ET at covidisnojoke.org and the Americares YouTube channel.

The show offers a break from the stress, with sketches and stand-up, as well as key messages for viewers.
Actor-director Tony Goldwyn will host the event, which taps some of the biggest names in comedy. The show’s lineup includes Will Ferrell, Mindy Kaling, Elizabeth Banks, Jack Black, Chelsea Handler, Gal Gadot, Patton Oswalt and Adam Scott, among others.

“We can’t be together right now, but we can laugh together — and help frontline health workers at the same time,” said Goldwyn, a longtime advocate for Americares.

Americares’ relief workers respond to 30 natural disasters and humanitarian crises worldwide each year, such as the Ebola and the Zika outbreaks. It is now helping communities suffering from the coronavirus. The 40-year-old organization has provided more than $18 billion in aid to 164 countries, including the U.S.

Viewers can support Americares’ COVID-19 response by making a donation on americares.org or by texting “JOKE” to 20222 to make a $25 donation.
