ESPN Shuts Down WatchESPN, Moves All Content to ESPN App

In an effort to consolidate access to its content, ESPN killed its WatchESPN app and moved all its content to the ESPN app. WatchESPN, which first launched in April 2011, enabled pay-TV customers authenticated access to live games. The Disney-owned sports programmer pulled WatchESPN from Apple’s App Store, Google Play and other platforms.

In April 2018, ESPN introduced a redesigned app that provided the same access to authenticated pay-TV users, along with free content like scores, news and video highlights and ESPN+ — a $4.99 per month subscription service that provides access to thousands of events not available on TV.

Over the last couple of weeks, ESPN has been notifying users who were still using WatchESPN that they should download the ESPN app. All content previously found on the platform is now exclusively on the ESPN App.

The move comes after a similar approach by NBC, who last week relaunched their mobile and TV app to include content from all of their cable networks. With the new update you can watch live and on-demand content from across the NBCUniversal’s entertainment & news networks in a single app.

The app supports channels like Bravo, E!, Oxygen, SYFY, USA — but does not include sports channels like NBCSN, Golf Channel, or NBC RSNs
