Netflix Signs Adam Sandler to 4 More Movies

Fern Siegel

Netflix and Adam Sandler have re-upped their relationship. The streamer will make four more movies with the “Saturday Night Live” alum and his Happy Madison Productions.

The actor was last featured on Netflix in the comedy “Murder Mystery,” co-starring Jennifer Aniston, which the company claims was its most popular U.S. title in 2019.

Sandler signed an initial deal with Netflix six years ago. Since then, the streamer has run several of his films: “The Ridiculous 6,” “The Do-Over,” “Sandy Wexler,” “The Week Of,” in addition to “Murder Mystery.”

Netflix was also home to his first stand-up special in two decades.

“Whether you know him as Sandman, the Water Boy, Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, Nick Spitz or simply Adam, one thing is clear: Our members can’t get enough of him,” stated Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s Chief Content Officer.

On the feature film front, Sandler will next star in the comedy “Hubie Halloween” with Kevin James and Maya Rudolph. But he possesses a strong dramatic bent, too, with roles in “Punch-Drunk Love,” The Meyerowitz Stories” and “Uncut Gems.”

Netflix recently signed Bradley Cooper to star in and direct an untitled Leonard Bernstein film. Cooper (“A Star Is Born,” “Silver Linings Playbook”) also co-wrote the script with Josh Singer, who won an Oscar for “Spotlight.” It will get a theatrical release before it premieres on the Netflix site.
