Quibi Announces ‘Prodigy’ Hosted by Soccer Star Megan Rapinoe, ‘Micro Mayhem’ Series

Quibi, the mobile short-form streamer, is projected to spend $400 million to $500 million on advertising this year, per iSpotTV.

While the platform is operating on the less-is-more theory, with shows up to 10 minutes in length, it’s still competing with streaming rivals. In preparation for its April 6 debut, Quibi has added several shows and released trailers for upcoming ones.

Quibi has announced the 2020 class of “Prodigy,” the working title of a new documentary series that highlights eight young athletes (21 or younger) expected to become stars in their chosen sports. U.S. soccer star Megan Rapinoe is hosting. The series focuses on accomplishments and origin stories.

The stellar class includes: Jalen Green, No. 1-ranked high-school basketball player in U.S., Sha’Carri Richardson, fastest woman in NCAA track-field, Red Gerard, snowboarder, the youngest Winter Olympic Gold Medalist since 1928, Regan Smith, fastest woman in swimming history, Matthew Boling, fastest man in high-school track-field, Tyler Adams, soccer star, Korey Foreman, No. 1-ranked high-school football player and Chantel Navarro, U.S. Junior Boxing Team, five-time national champ.

“Micro Mayhem” is a stop-motion animation series in which cars are the main characters. The brainchild of Eric Towner (“Robot Chicken”), Jon Favreau’s Golem Creations, John Harvatine IV (“Robot Chicken”), Seth Green (“Austin Powers,” “Family Guy”) are among the executive producers.

“Micro Mayhem brings to life the car chases I imagined as a kid, and combines my love of technology and stop-motion artistry,” stated Towner.

The streamer is also offering a remake of “Most Dangerous Game,” starring Liam Hemsworth and Christoph Waltz. There is a reboot of “The Fugitive” with Kiefer Sutherland, as well as the comedy “Flipped,” starring Will Forte and Kaitlin Olson as home renovators who accidentally renovate a drug lord’s stash house. Model Chrissy Teigen will play a judge of small-claims cases in “Chrissy’s Court,” where her mom is the bailiff, while figure skater Adam Rippon explores “This Day in Useless Celebrity History.”

One of Quibi’s standouts is the mega-talent CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg has attracted, such as Steven Spielberg. His horror series “Spielberg After Dark” will only be available at night.

Quibi also dropped trailers for upcoming shows, including “Most Dangerous Game,” “Survive,” “Flipped” and “The Stranger.”
