Snap to Debut 10 New Shows, Kevin Hart and ‘Twilight’ Director Join Roster
In the next year, Snap will launch 10 new original series: three scripted, three unscripted and four docuseries.
The scripted category includes “Frogtown,” directed by Catherine Hardwicke (“Twilight,” “Red Riding Hood”), and “Action Royal,” a coming-of-age drama about a teen who starts an esports gambling ring. “Frogtown” is billed as “a badass skater” who joins an all-girl crew in East Los Angeles.
Kevin Hart is part of the reality show lineup with “Coach Kev,” in which he encourages people to be their best selves. “Queen of Stylez” features hairstylist Tokyo Stylez, who claims some of Hollywood’s biggest stars as clients, while “Road Trippin” put takes friends/co-creators Rickey Thompson and Denzel Dion together for a road trip through rural America. “Road Tripin” is produced by Anthony Anderson (“black-ish”).
In addition, Snap is renewing Snap Originals “Dead of Night,” “Face Forward,” “Nikita Unfiltered” and “Vs the World.”
Snap Originals are available on Discover to Snapchat users globally. Per the company, more than half of the U.S. Gen Z population is watching them. Snap’s flagship app claims about 229 million daily active users.
Snap also announced “Happening Now” — updates on breaking news stories customized for mobile users. News partners include The Washington Post, Bloomberg, Reuters, NBC News, ESPN and NowThis.
Finally, Snapchat “Minis” has teamed with Headspace, which offers guided meditations and mindfulness practices on the app. Users can also take a picture of a dog and discover its breed.
