Tubi Continues to Grow, Service Reaches 25 Million Users With More Than 163 Million Hours Watched

Stephanie Sengwe

It seems Tubi’s upward mobility is not slowing down anytime soon. The free, ad-supported service announced today that they reached 25 million monthly active users back in December. Not only did they hit a benchmark with the number of users, but they also saw major growth in the amount of hours watched. The company reported that Total View Time (TVT) spiked to over 163 million hours watched — a year-over-year TVT increase of 160 percent.

Tubi has now surpassed fellow competitor, Pluto TV, who reported that they are now being viewed by approximately 20 million users every month, back in November. The boost was up from the 18 million they announced in August, and 12 million active users when Viacom acquired the company for $340 million in January 2019.

“Our growth over the last year is a clear testament to the success of our focused strategy in a now-cluttered marketplace,” said Farhad Massoudi, CEO of Tubi. “We’re excited people globally have embraced Tubi as a complement to subscription video and aim to deliver an even larger library of premium content in 2020.”

Tubi also grew internationally — with a 357 percent increase in TVT year-over-year in Canada and Australia. They also plan to launch in more countries, Mexico and the UK.

In January, Tubi announced a partnership up with TV Azteca — one of the two largest producers of Spanish-language TV programming globally — and will expand the service into Mexico later this year. Through the deal, TV Azteca will promote Tubi to its audience and provide advertising sales for the streaming service. Also, some of TV Azteca’s popular shows will be free to Tubi customers in Mexico, including “MasterChef Mexico,” “Enamorándonos” and “Exatlón Mexico.”

Tubi also announced they signed a deal with Hisense — the third-largest television manufacturer in the world — to bring content to Vidaa International. Starting spring 2020, Tubi customers in the U.S., Canada and Australia will have access to Tubi’s large library of content on the new Vidaa platform. And later this year, Tubi will launch in the UK where consumers will have access to Vidaa as well. The new Hisense TVs powered by Vidaa will have Tubi preloaded and placed on home screens.
