To push its new service, AT&T has created an extensive special promotion for WarnerMedia’s HBO Max.
Running $15/month, the streamer carries the new tagline: “Where HBO meets so much more.”
The trade mag detailed some of the promotion specifics. For example, subscribers to HBO via DirecTV, U-Verse and AT&T TV premium packages get HBO Max free.
New AT&T TV Choice, Xtra or Ultimate, and Óptimo Más package customers and new DirecTV Choice, Xtra, Ultimate or Más Ultra customers get HBO Max free for one year.
AT&T customers with different service plans get a 90-day free trial. For wireless subscribers, AT&T Unlimited Elite users get the streamer free; other plans give one month free.
Current customers with other levels of video service will get regular HBO and HBO Max for three months free starting May 27.
Wireless subscribers to the AT&T Unlimited Elite plan will get HBO Max included at no cost. Other wireless plans will feature a one-month free trial. Internet customers with the AT&T Internet 1000 plan get HBO Max free. Other internet subscribers get one month free.
WarnerMedia previously announced it was targeting 75 million to 90 million HBO Max subscribers, which included 50 million in the U.S., by 2025. The streamer already has carriage deals with YouTube TV and Charter. The new service features 10,000 hours of original shows.
In December, Robert Greenblatt, chairman of WarnerMedia Entertainment and the company’s D2C business, told Reuters: “We like the idea that people watch weekly and look forward to the next episode and talk about it. There is a sense of a shared experience.”
