Devin Emery, Former Vice President of Growth at Cheddar, Joins CuriosityStream

It’s been quite a week for shifting executives within the streaming industry. Earlier this week, The Information reported that AT&T has approached former Hulu CEO Randy Freer and Hulu’s founding CEO Jason Kilar to take on the role of CEO over at WarnerMedia.

Now, CuriosityStream just announced they have on boarded former Cheddar executive Devin Emery as the head of growth for the service. Emery will report to president and CEO Clint Stinchcomb and “will oversee marketing, audience intelligence, product and content with a focus on growing the service’s subscriber base, audience engagement and brand partnerships,” according to FierceVideo.

“Devin is an elite talent and a proven agent of growth with a keen eye for developing and optimizing processes that advance businesses like ours,” said Stinchcomb in a statement. “Devin has a clear passion for the business of storytelling and is eager to help our team build CuriosityStream into the world’s leading independent factual media company.”

In January, CuriosityStream announced they had reached 13 million paying subscribers. This was up from 10 million subscribers they reported back in December.

CuriosityStream, which was founded by Discovery Channel creator John Hendricks, owes part of their growth to the deals they inked with cable operators such as Altice USA and Suddenlink. Instead of trying to grow the company on their own, Hendricks, along with Stinchcomb, have sold the service to pay-TV operators who then bundle it for their own video and internet customers.

CuriosityStream gives cable companies broad on-demand rights to content that ranges from of nature to science to arts, history and many more in exchange for a flat annual fee, according to Variety.

The company recently expanded their reach, partnering up with Millicom, a Latin American telecom company, and will now be available in the region. Residents from Colombia, Nicaragua, Honduras, Panama, Paraguay, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Bolivia and El Salvador will all have access to CuriosityStream programming.
