Disney Plus Reviews: Which Original Shows Should You Watch? We Watched, Our Thoughts

Disney+ is almost here. In just eight days, the streaming service from Disney will make its official debut. The $6.99 per month service will include a deep catalog including the entire Disney Vault, Pixar and Star Wars libraries, MCU films like Captain Marvel, and the entire 30 seasons of The Simpsons.

But, what many are looking forward to is the original series that will be debuting at launch. Disney shared with The Streamable a sneak peak of some of those shows (they are holding back The Mandalorian to limit spoilers from leaking) and these are our thoughts.

While (outside of The Mandalorian), it is unlikely that any of these shows are going to get you to subscribe, as a subscriber, you’ll be happy that they’re there.

Today, we will share our thoughts on The Imagineering Story, Encore!, and Forky Asks a Question, and later in the week on High School Musical: The Musical The Series, The World According to Jeff Goldblum, and The Marvel Hero Project.

“Encore!” on Disney+ Review

In the 25 years since graduating high school, so many things change. People build families, old friendships fade, insecurities might disappear, but what happens when you’re asked to relive your defining moment of high school one more time.

In “Encore!”, Executive producer Kristen Bell brings together former cast-mates of a high school musical, tasking them with re-creating their original performance in a high school reunion like no other.

The fact that they are putting on a musical is just a backdrop in what the show is really about. While in high school, every major event feels like it defines your life, it never does.

When the group comes together and sings for the first time, it’s clear that it’s going to be a miracle to pull off a production in just 5 days. The show has a similar feeling of other reality shows of years past like “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.”

As the five days tick down, it’s clear that no matter what happens, the show must go on.

“The Imagineering Story” on Disney+ Review

Before there was Steve Jobs, there was Walt Disney. While most think about his impact on animation, his true impact was on imagination. The docs-series, “The Imagineering Story” chronicles the 65+ year history of Walt Disney Imagineering taking you behind-the-scenes of what makes Disney Parks what they are today.

It shows the level of detail that goes into creating a magical experience. When Disney was creating the Enchanted Tiki Room, they originally planned to have live birds in cages above the diners. When Walt chimed in, “you can’t have birds in cages, because they’ll poop in the food.”

With Disney+, the company is trying to reinvent itself for the next-generation. What “The Imagineering Story” makes you appreciate that no matter how much time passes, at it’s core Disney remains quintessential Disney.

“Forky Asks a Question” on Disney+ Review

While the major Pixar series “Monsters At Work” won't debut on Disney+ until next year, the service will have a set of original shorts to whet your appetite. In the series “Forky Asks a Question”, Forky, one of the break out characters from “Toy Story 4” (voiced by Tony Hale), says it best “I was made from trash two days ago, so I got a lot of questions.
