Emily Blunt to Make Streaming Series Debut in Amazon’s ‘The English’

Golden Globe winner Emily Blunt — best known for her film roles in “Mary Poppins Returns,” “A Quiet Place” and “The Devil Wears Prada” — is making her streaming series debut, Variety reports.

Amazon Prime Video has picked up the U.S. rights to the BBC’s “The English,” a Western, and a new genre for the British actress.

The multi-part BBC drama comes from writer-director Hugo Blick, who helmed the British spy thriller “The Honorable Woman” with Maggie Gyllenhall. “Woman” won the Golden Globe and Peabody awards. Blick also wrote and directed “Black Earth Rising,” currently on Netflix, about the prosecution of global war criminals.

So far, there are few story details for “The English.” Most of Blunt’s career has been spent in movies; her rare TV credits include the 2005 miniseries “Empire” and a voice guest spot on “The Simpsons.”
This year, Blunt will reprise her role in the horror sequel “A Quiet Place: Part II.”

Amazon has nabbed North American rights to various British titles, including “A Very English Scandal” with Ben Whishaw and Hugh Grant. It also bought Phyllida Lloyd’s Irish drama “Herself” at Sundance this year.

The streamer just hired Mike Hopkins to run its entertainment unit, the group that oversees Prime Video.
