Game of Thrones Final Season Premiere Nearly Doubled Streamers From Last Season

Unless you were living under a rock, you probably heard that last night was Game of Thrones' final season premiere. The episode was watched by a record 17.4 million viewers across HBO, HBOGO, and HBO NOW — higher than the previous record fo 16.9 million for last season’s finale.
The company’s HBO NOW OTT streaming service saw viewership jump 50% compared to last year’s finale, or 97% higher than the seventh season premiere. Yesterday was the largest night of streaming ever for the premium channel.
The premiere had a big spillover effect on other HBO programming. HBO comedy Barry starring Bill Hader had 2.2 million viewers, more than 4x last week’s audience. Veep had 1.5 million viewers, its largest viewerships since 2016. Last Week Tonight with John Oliver had an audience of 1.7 million viewers, its most-watched telecast since August 2017.
