In honor of Pride Month, HBO announced they will launch a Pride celebration on their Human by Orientation platform. The site will offer free virtual events featuring the likes of Janelle Monáe, Todrick Hall, and Kim Petras, beginning June 18 through June 28.
“Pride has always been very important to us at HBO, now more than ever,” said Jackie Gagne, VP multicultural marketing at HBO. “Black lives matter, Black trans lives matter, Black queer lives matter. Our goal of Human by Orientation has always been to help the community celebrate their proudest and queerest selves.”
According to Variety, celebrations commence on June 18 with a dance party hosted by Por Detroit and Ostbahnhof followed by a live performance by Todrick Hall celebrating Juneteenth the next day. Shangela, Bob the Drag Queen and Eureka O’Hara will host a brunch during the weekend of June 20 while June 21 brings a dance class with The Sweat Spot founder Ryan Heffington, followed by a queer comedy night.
The following week will offer a “Drag Queen Story Hour,” a vogueing class hosted by the cast of HBO Max’s “Legendary,” and an hour-long set from Kim Petras on June 27. Janelle Monáe will close out the 10-day festivities with an intimate performance on June 28.
All events on the Human by Orientantion will be free and will also be highlighting nonprofit organizations benefitting the LGBTQIA+ community, including the National Black Justice Coalition, Ali Forney Center and Audre Lorde Project.
