How to Redeem Your Free Year of Apple TV Plus

Apple TV+ launches this Friday, November 1st with seven original series for $4.99 a month. However, Apple is giving a free 1-year subscription to anyone who purchased an iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Apple TV after September 10th, 2019. While there has been some confusion on exactly how to redeem the offer, according to Apple this is how you will get your free year of service.

How to Get Your Free Year of Apple TV+

Starting November 1, you’ll be able to start your 1 year free Apple TV+ in the Apple TV app.

  1. Turn on your new iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Apple TV 4K or Apple TV HD, or Mac and sign in with your Apple ID.
  2. Open the Apple TV app on November 1 or later. Make sure your eligible device is running the latest version of iOS, iPadOS, tvOS, or macOS.
  3. The offer should be presented immediately after launching the app. If not, scroll down in Watch Now until the offer appears.
  4. Tap “Enjoy 1 Year Free.” You might be asked to enter your Apple ID password, confirm your billing information, or add a valid payment method. You will not be charged during the 1 year free trial.

While up to 6 family members can share one Apple TV+ subscription through Family Sharing, you can only redeem one offer per family group. If you bought multiple devices, you can only redeem the offer once per Apple ID, so you can’t get multiple free years.

Make sure you act fast though, you have until February 1st to redeem the offer if you purchased a new device before launch. If you purchase it after Apple TV+ launches, you get three months from when you activate your device.

At launch, the service will have seven original series and the movie Elephant Queen. November 1st will see the premieres of The Morning Show with Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon, Dickinson with Hailee Steinfeld, See with Jason Momoa, For All Mankind a show by Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica writer Ronald D. Moore. They will also debut three kids series - Snoopy in Space, Helpsters by Sesame Workshop, and Ghostwriter.

Over the next year, they will bring shows like Amazing Stories by Steven Spielberg, Little America by Kumail Nanjiani, Little Voice by J.J. Abrams & Sara Bareilles, and Oprah’s Book Club by Oprah Winfrey
