‘Love, Simon’ Exits Disney Plus, Transforms Into Hulu Show ‘Love, Victor”

Fern Siegel

The “Love, Simon” TV series has a new moniker, “Love, Victor,” and a new streamer: Hulu. The movie adaptation about a gay 17-year-old, set to air on Disney+, is moving its address.

The 10-episode first season will premiere on Hulu in June, which coincides with Pride Month. The steamer is also exploring a possible second season.

The series is based on the 2018 film “Love, Simon,” which was directed by Greg Berlanti, best known for writing-producing “Dawson’s Creek,” “Everwood” and “Riverdale.”

Variety noted that Disney+ was hesitant about some of the sexual exploration and alcohol use in the series, given the company’s family-friendly content. However, Disney owns 67 percent of Hulu, which it gained in its purchase of 21st Century Fox. Comcast owns the minority stake.

The stars of the TV series remain, though new storylines will unfold. The cast includes Michael Cimino (“Anabelle Comes Home”) as Victor with Ana Ortiz (“Whiskey Cavalier,” “Ugly Betty”) as his caring mother and James Martinez (“House of Cards”) as his macho, blue-collar father. Additional cast members include Rachel Naomi Hilson (“This Is Us”), Bebe Wood (“The Real O’Neal’s,” “The New Normal”), and George Sear (“Will,” “Into the Badlands”).

Hulu announced last week it would release the first three episodes of “Little Fires Everywhere,” starring Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington at launch, on March 18.
