Netflix Has Small Streaming Dip, While YouTube, Disney Plus Record Small Rises During Week of April 13

Streaming networks have seen major hikes in subscribers, from Netflix hitting nearly 183 million global subscribers in Q1 to the Starz new subs rocketing to 142 percent since the March 14 lockdown.

And while the viewer numbers are up overall, Nielsen notes there were slight variations recently.

It’s all week-to-week, as the U.S. adjusts to a new normal.

As states issued stay-at-home orders last month, TV usage spiked. But according to Nielsen, those numbers were up 2 percent for the week of April 13 versus the week of April 6.

The same report noted some streaming dips, with internet connected devices down 3 percent from a rise the previous week, wrote B&C. The upside: There were more streaming minutes recorded — double the same time period in 2019.

Nielsen also found connected devices the most-used forms of TV usage.

Drilling down, each streamer has its own story. For instance, during the week of April 13, YouTube was up to from 19 percent to 20 percent, while Disney+ rose slightly, from 27 percent to 28 percent.

Hulu held at 12 percent from one week to the next. So did Amazon Prime Video, at 8 percent.

Market giant Netflix, however, had a slight dip – from 33 percent to 32 percent. It said three of its most streamed shows were “Ozark,” “Tiger King” and “The Office.”
