Netflix Original Content Continues to Draw Big Numbers for the Streaming Service

Netflix may have lost some subscribers in their second quarter, but that did not take away from the fact that viewers are still drawn to its original content. The streaming service reported that original content on the platform still garnered millions of viewership.

Netflix reported that Dead to Me, the dramedy starring Christina Applegate, was watched by 30 million households in its first four weeks. The comedy was renewed for a second season.

Limited series, When They See Us, based on the Central Park Five case, was watched by 25 million households in its first four weeks and garnered 16 Emmy Award nominations, including Outstanding Limited Series. Our Planet became Netflix’s highest-watched original docu-series through its first four weeks, with 33 million households tuning in.

In the original movies category, Murder Mystery, which was streamed by over 30 million households in first three days, is joined by The Perfect Date and Always Be My Maybe which were viewed by 48 million and 32 million viewers respectively.

With a strong slate of shows like Stranger Things, Orange Is The New Black, and The Crown coming in the third quarter, the company expects to grow by seven million paid memberships (with 0.8m in the US and 6.2m internationally) — more than the 6.1m a year ago.
