Disney Plus to Exclusively Stream New Game Show ‘Star Wars: Jedi Temple Challenge’

Star Wars fans can rejoice as Disney+ has yet another show for them. The streaming service announced they will be the exclusive streaming home for “Star Wars: Jedi Temple Challenge,” a new game show that “tests young contestants’ abilities in the core Jedi principles of strength, knowledge and bravery as they face thrilling and fun obstacles in an attempt to achieve the rank of Jedi Knight.”

Launching on Disney+ in 2020, the show will be hosted by Ahmed Best, who will play the role of Jedi Master and mentor the contestants. Best, who voiced the character Jar Jar Binks in the Star Wars prequels, will be joined by a humanoid droid companion, voiced by “VEEP” actress Mary Holland.

“This is definitely a kids game show like no other,” said Mickey Capoferri, Lucasfilm’s senior director of online content and programming. “The various challenges will test a Padawan’s connection to the Force in three locations — a forest planet, on board a Jedi star cruiser and inside a Jedi Temple — immersing them and the audience in a fun, humorous and exciting competition.”

“Star Wars: Jedi Temple Challenge” follows the success of another Star Wars Disney+ original, “The Mandalorian,” which premiered with the service on Nov. 12. The live-action series took the No. 3 spot on a ranking of the most in-demand digital originals among U.S. viewers, Variety reported. According to data from Parrot Analytics, the series garnered 40 million “demand expressions” and had stronger U.S. demand than some of 2019’s biggest streaming originals — Netflix’s “The Umbrella Academy,” “When They See Us” and “The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance,” as well as Amazon Prime Video’s “Good Omens” — in its first four days.
