Because of postponements due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Belmont Stakes will be the first event in this year’s American Triple Crown of horse racing on Saturday instead of the last leg. The event race will be broadcast on NBC beginning at 2:45 p.m. ET.

How to Watch the 2020 Belmont Stakes

In addition to the shift in schedule, this year’s Belmont Stakes will see horses running a much shorter distance than years prior. According to NBC Sports, the race has been shortened from 1 1/2 miles (12 furlongs) to 1 1/8 miles (9 furlongs). As with other sports leagues and events that have resumed, the Belmont Stakes will takes place with no audience. In an effort to keep viewers interactive and engaged, NBC will put mics on three jockeys on race day, the New York Post reported.

All eyes will be on the horse Tiz the Law come Saturday. “With the same owner and trainer team as 2003 Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner Funny Cide,” Tiz the Law is slated to be the first New York-bred horse to win the Belmont Stakes since 1882. He also boasts a winning heritage as “the son of Constitution and grandson of Tapit, who sired three Belmont winners (Tonalist in 2014, Creator in 2016, Tapwrit in 2017),” NBC Sports reports.

Tap it to Win, Dr Post, Max Player and Farmington Road are also pose as formidable competition for Tiz the Law.
