Hulu announced today a completely redesigned TV experience, starting with tvOS. Hulu says the new design is meant to help people get to their content more quickly and discover new shows. While the update will begin rolling out to some users on Apple TV and Roku today, it is expected to come to other TV platforms like Fire TV in the coming months.
Hulu TV App Design Updates
- Updated navigation pattern so viewers explore collections vertically and dive deeper into collections horizontally
- Content categories like TV, Movies and Sports will be moved to the top navigation
- Collection trays will showcase varied tile size to communicate information more effectively
- Content experts and recommendation system work even more closely to create collections and curate our viewers’ experience.
Hulu says overhauling the navigation pattern is something their viewers “are accustomed to and matches the navigation pattern across Disney+ and ESPN+, making it easier for viewers who subscribe to the Disney bundle to switch between services and navigate with ease.”
In terms of recommendations, Hulu is now customizing each section so “a viewer who may be a fan of medical dramas will see those titles first in a curated drama collection. In that same collection, a fan of romantic dramas may see those prioritized instead.”
Hulu has spent the last year updating their TV App to improve discoverability of both their on-demand and Live TV. They added a 14-Day Grid Guide and more informative detail pages.
