Netflix, Nickelodeon Seal Multiyear TV, Movie Deal

Netflix continues to enhance its TV alliances.

The streaming giant just signed a multiyear licensing deal with Nickelodeon for original animated movies and television series. Specials will be based on “The Loud House” and “Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle.”

To date, Nickelodeon’s “Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling” and “Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus” have aired on Netflix.

The partnership with Nickelodeon allows Netflix to expand its reach to kids and grow that lucrative niche business.

“Nickelodeon’s next step forward is to keep expanding beyond linear platforms, and our broader content partnership with Netflix is a key path toward that goal,” stated Brian Robbins, president of Nickelodeon.

Netflix’s vice president of original animation, Melissa Cobb, added the duo want to tell “wholly original stories that re-imagine and expand on the worlds” children inhabit.

Netflix animation schedule for the remainder of this year includes the feature “Klaus” and kids’ series “Dino Girl Gauko.”

Nickelodeon’s parent company, Viacom, will also oversee CBS All Access and Showtime once the Viacom-CBS merger is completed. CBS All Access and Showtime’s OTT service are projected to count 25 million subscribers by 2022.
