Quibi Reports 2.7 Million Downloads, Will Soon Be Streamable on TV

Quibi is seeing an upward trajectory in its downloads.

Since its debut April 6, the mobile streamer says it’s been downloaded more than 2.7 million times, reports Reuters. And it recorded 1.7 million downloads in its first streaming week.

Founder Jeffrey Katzenberg, the former chairman of Walt Disney Studios, told the news service Quibi will be even more versatile in May. At that time, users can transmit the service from their mobile phones to TVs.

To date, Quibi says its most popular shows are “Most Dangerous Game,” “Chrissy’s Court,” “Flipped,” “Punk’d” and “Survive.”

The start-up also boasts A-listers providing content, such as Steven Spielberg, Reese Witherspoon, Ben Stiller and Steven Soderbergh. The streamer slated 175 original short-form series its first year, totaling more than 8,500 original episodes.

The streamer, which costs $4.99/month for the ad-supported tier and $7.99/month ad-free, has a free 90-day trial offer.

Quibi, which stands for “quick bites,” was fashioned for millennials standing in line or commuting. Once stay-at-home orders are lifted, Katzenberg told Reuters that on-the-go philosophy will be tested — and the industry will see “how successful and valuable Quibi could be to its customers.”
