Redbox Adding More Than 20 New Free Streaming Channels To Its Ad-Supported Service

Michael King

Redbox has announced 20 new streaming channels, set to launch over the next few weeks on its Free Ad Supported Free Live TV (FAST) service. The channels will include live local news, kids and Spanish language programming.

Along with the announcement, Redbox says they have signed an agreement with Cox Media Group (CMG) to stream 10 live local news channels from markets that include Seattle, Atlanta, and Orlando.

“This is the largest increase of new, free streaming channels in Redbox’s history,” said Chris Yates, General Manager, Redbox On Demand. “From local news to some of the best kids shows, there is even more programming for everyone to enjoy. We’re excited to see these channels go live soon.”

Redbox has made several major moves in recent weeks to expand its streaming footprint. Earlier this month, they announced a deal with CuriosityStream to provide titles from Curiosity’s library for streaming on Redbox’s ad-supported video-on-demand streaming (AVOD) service, as well as its free ad-supported streaming television (FAST) service.

In addition, Redbox has locked down a multi-year distribution deal with Lionsgate that lines up content for the Redbox streaming service. The agreement includes licensing of films and TV series from the 17,000-title Lionsgate library for Redbox’s free ad-supported streaming service.
