Watch This: Best in Streaming This Week: ‘CSI: Vegas’ and ‘One of Us Is Lying’
This week, old favorites return in new ways, new favorites take their last bows for the season, and the MLB starts its playoff run. Plus, let’s stand up for a prize fight to round it all out. Sit back and watch this:
An old favorite returns to television with a slightly new twist in CSI: Vegas. William Peterson, Jorja Fox, and Wallace Langham reprise their roles from the original CSI series, set six years after the end of the original show’s 15-year run. The limited series begins with an attack on retired police Capt. Jim Brass (Paul Guilfoyle, also returning in a guest role), that brings the prior work of the crime lab under scrutiny. Former crime scene investigators Gil Grissom, Sara Sidle, and David Hodges (Peterson, Fox, and Langham) return to help put things back in order. CSI: Vegas airs on CBS on Wednesday night at 10 pm ET. The show streams on Paramount+ the following day.
One of Us Is Lying is based on the New York Times best-selling novel by Karen M. McManus. It’s the story of what happens when five high schoolers walk into detention and only four make it out alive. Everyone is a suspect, and everyone has something to hide. The eight-episode teen drama One of Us Is Lying streams Thursday on Peacock.
That’s just the top of the ticket this week. As for the best of the rest of what’s out there this week, here’s a good look at what’s going on.
The Fall Classic Gets Underway
For some, the greatest drama in sports is on the diamond, and after a last-minute round-robin to decide the final MLB Wild Card slot in the American League, all of the playoff spots have been decided. The AL and NL Wild Card games will kick things off with the New York Yankees visiting the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday night on ESPN, while the Los Angeles Dodgers host the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday evening on TBS. The Divisional Series games start rolling on Thursday on FS1, MLB Network, and TBS.
What Else Can They Add to ‘What If?’
After a slow burn with a good batch of alternate universes this season on Marvel’s What If…?, last week, fans were solidly hit in the face with a knock-down-drag-out battle for the ages between The Watcher and Ultron that was one of the best outside of an MCU movie itself. Following last week’s cliffhanger, this week pulls out all the stops just in time for the season finale. The good news is that What If…? has been renewed for a second season. The bad news is that you won’t get to see it until about this time next year. The What If…? season finale streams Wednesday on Disney+.

Driving The Price of a Stock on Reddit
During the pandemic, the stock price of GameStop was artificially driven to an unspeakable high by speculators on Reddit. How did this happen? Could it happen again? A Vice special, The Big Squeeze: GameStop, Reddit & an Economic Disaster takes a much closer look at the phenomenon and how it worked, Wednesday at 9 pm ET.
