What’s New to Streaming, Including ‘The Problem With Jon Stewart’ and the untitled Joan Rivers limited series

The Problem With Jon Stewart debuts globally on Apple TV+ Sept. 30, with new episodes premiering every other week. The series also airs a companion podcast every week. Episode topics will range from the struggle for comprehensive veteran care to supporting the working class. Problem is hosted and executive produced by Stewart through his Busboy Productions.

Apple TV+ is a subscription video streaming service for $9.99 a month that includes high-quality original shows and movies including Best Picture winner “CODA,” popular sitcom “Ted Lasso,” and dramas like “The Morning Show” and “Severance.” Apple TV+ is also home to MLB baseball games on Friday nights and MLS Season Pass.

Here are additional deals and projects:

  • Kathryn Hahn (WandaVision) will star as comic Joan Rivers in a limited series Showtime will develop. The series begins in 1984, with the end of Rivers’ late-night show. She copes with the tanking of her career and the suicide of her husband, who managed her career for 22 years.

  • Schitt’s Creek star and Emmy Award-winner Dan Levy has signed a film and TV deal with Netflix and is set to direct, write and star in an original romantic comedy for the streamer. His deal with Netflix has him producing and writing scripted content and other creative projects. Film work will begin immediately with an untitled romantic comedy, while his TV work will begin in July 2022, after his current deal with ABC Signature concludes.

  • *Tubi will launch the true crime docuseries Meet, Marry, Murder, hosted by Michelle Trachtenberg (Buffy the Vampire Slayer*). Each episode highlights the story of someone killed by their significant other. Thirteen episodes will arrive on Tubi on October 6. If you have an Amazon Fire TV, you’ll be able to see a free preview October 1-5.

  • PBS is streaming Vitals, launching as a new health and wellness YouTube channel on Sept. 30. It’s a 30-episode digital series that offers a tour of human health. Hosted by Dr. Alok Patel (Nova Now) and registered nurse Sheena Williams, the series shares expert advice, busts health myths, explores the latest science and checks out new treatments.

  • Snoop and Martha’s Very Tasty Halloween streams Oct. 14 on Peacock. The one-hour baking competition features talented bakers who face off in a delectable Halloween showdown. Three teams, called “Scare Squads,” are tasked with baking and building a full-sensory 12x12 Halloween world that people can literally explore. The catch? Their worlds must be inspired by the concept of fear.

  • Anna Winger-Airlift Productions has signed with Netflix to develop international dramas. Winger’s (“Unorthodox”) first effort will be Transatlantic, set during the 1940 refugee crisis in Marseilles, France, and based on the true story of the Emergency Rescue Committee and Julie Orringer’s 2019 novel, The Flight Portfolio.

Netflix is a subscription video streaming service that includes on-demand access to 3,000+ movies, 2,000+ TV Shows, and Netflix Originals like Stranger Things, Squid Game, The Crown, Tiger King, and Bridgerton. They are constantly adding new shows and movies. Some of their Academy Award-winning exclusives include Roma, Marriage Story, Mank, and Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.

  • Trial in the Outback: The Lindy Chamberlain Story, will debut with all three episodes on October 12 on Sundance Now and AMC+. The true-crime doc focuses on Lindy Chamberlain, who claimed in 1980 that a dingo killed her 9-week-old baby in the Australian outback. With little evidence and falsified reports, Lindy was convicted of murder and endured one of the country’s most notorious miscarriages of justice. She spent the next 30 years trying to prove her innocence.
