After Winning the Oscar For Netflix, Alfonso Cuarón Scores TV Deal With Apple

The latest big name to join Apple’s upcoming streaming service Apple TV+ is Oscar award winning director, Alfonso Cuarón. The director, who’s 2018 film “Roma”, nearly scored the first Best Picture win for a streaming service, brought home the award for Best Director for the film.

Cuarón’s exclusive multi-year deal with Apple, through his production company Esperanto Filmoj. will see him develop television series for Apple TV+. Besides Roma, Cuarón is best known for directing Gravity, Children of Men, and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

Apple will be launching Apple TV+ on November 1 in over 100 countries. Their launch will come 2 weeks before the launch of Disney+, at a price of $4.99 per month, which is less expensive than its competitors Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ and HBO Max.

At launch, the service will include shows like The Morning Show starring Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon and Steve Carrell, See with Jason Momoa, as well as Oprah’s Book Club by Oprah Winfrey and For All Mankind a show by Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica writer Ronald D. Moore.

Over the next year, they will bring shows like Amazing Stories by Steven Spielberg, Little America by Kumail Nanjiani, Helpsters by Sesame Street Workshops, Little Voice by J.J. Abrams & Sara Bareilles, and *.

All shows are available ad-free and on-demand, with the ability for six family members to watch at the same time. The content will be streamable in up to 4K HDR with Dolby Atmos and available offline.
