AT&T TV Box Will Cost $10 a Month (or $120 For Life), But You Get Your First For Free

AT&T has officially launched their streaming version of DirecTV, which is named AT&T TV. Customers in 10 markets can now sign-up for the service: Orange County, CA, Riverside, CA, West Palm Beach, CA, Topeka, KS, Wichita, KS, St. Louis, MO Springfield, MO, Corpus Christi, TX, El Paso TX, & Odessa, TX.

The service is powered by their custom Android TV streaming media player, which they had previously been testing with DIRECTV NOW. One question many had was whether the device would cost an extra service fee.

Today, we learned that the first device will be included in your service for free. However, every additional device will either cost $120 or subscribers can rent the box for $10 a month. Unlike DIRECTV, the service comes with 3 simultaneous streams, so outside of the box fee — you don’t pay an additional amount for the service to be in another room.

The box itself is built on top of Android TV, which means it will highly rely on Google Assistant. Like other Android TV streamers, AT&T TV says that the 4K box will be able to find shows and movies by voice, as well as change controls and ask questions to the Google Assistant. Since it has Bluetooth, you can pair wireless bluetooth headphones and speakers to the device.
