“Guilty Party,” a new half-hour dark comedy series, has been greenlit by CBS All Access.
Isla Fisher (“Confessions of a Shopaholic,” “Wedding Crashers”) will star and executive produce the show, which focuses on a “discredited journalist desperate to salvage her career.”
In “Guilty Party,” Fisher follows the story of a woman who claims she was wrongfully imprisoned for the murder of her husband.
“Guilty Party” is written by Rebecca Addelman (“Dead to Me”), with Trent O’Donnell (“No Activity”) set to direct. Addelman, who is also an executive producer, called “Guilty Party” a “genre-bending show that tackles contemporary issues – the prison system, the death of print journalism and pervasive gun culture, to name a few – but has, at its core, smart, funny, ambitious and deeply complicated female character.”
Fisher is co-starring with Jillian Bell in Disney+’s live-action comedy “Godmothered,” currently in production. Bell (“Brittany Runs a Marathon”) plays Eleanor, a novice fairy godmother-in-training, worried her profession is becoming passé. When she finds a dated letter from Mackenzie, a then 12-year-old girl, she’s determined help her. What she discovers is a now 40-year-old widowed single mother (Fisher) in Boston.
The actress is also co-starring in “Blithe Spirit,” with Dan Stevens, Leslie Mann and Dame Judi Dench.
The streamer recently upped Julie McNamara as executive vice president, head of programming.
