ESPN is adding more NHL coverage to their arsenal. In addition 103 NHL games across ESPN, ESPN+, Hulu, and ABC, and every out-of-market game on ESPN+ – they will launching a new weekly NHL studio show on ESPN2 and ESPN+ called “The Point.”
The show is hosted by former NHL2Night anchor John Buccigross, who will also be a play-by-play announcer for some of ESPN’s games this season. The show will air weekly on Thursday afternoons from 3-4 pm on ESPN2 and stream live on ESPN+.
Ahead of the regular season, The Point, will premiere October 7 at 5 p.m. ET on ESPN2, and will air daily on ESPN during NHL Opening Week. The Point will join ESPN+ daily highlights show, “In The Crease,” which is hosted by Linda Cohn.
Buccigross says of The Point, “If NHL 2Night had a child it would be The Point. Like any good parent, our goal is to make this hockey kid even better than its parents. Stoked to get going.”
ESPN says “The Point” will look ahead to key matchups, trends within the NHL, and hockey lifestyle coverage. The show is created by the team behind E:60 and will focus on the compelling personalities in the league, as well as hockey culture and hockey lifestyle stories.
In addition to NHL out-of-market games (it is now the home to NHL.TV), there will be 75+ exclusive nationally televised games available on ESPN+, so there is a good chance at least some of your team’s games you will need the service even if you’re in-market.
