Upcoming Quibi gaming drama “CURS_R” is billed as a “terrifying ride.”
Written by Simon Allen (“The Watch,” “Das Boot”), directed by Toby Meakins (“Bite Size Horror”) and including Ridley Scott as executive producer, the series will slot into the horror category.
“CURS_R” posits a nightmare scenario: A survival computer game gives a broke student a chance to win a big cash prize: $100,000. But she soon realizes she is not playing for money, but trapped in a terrifying ordeal. Stopping is not an option; it’s play or die.
Scott said of the project: “This is an extraordinary time to be a filmmaker,” adding the talented team wants to “create a series that promises to break new boundaries in the horror genre.”
Matthew James Wilkinson of Stigma Films (“Yesterday,” upcoming “Amulet” for Sundance) is the lead producer on “CURS_R,” along with Anton Corp. and Scott Free.
Other upcoming Quibi shows include a beauty show with Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, “Action Scene,” a comedy-action thriller with Kevin Hart, and sci-fi show called “Code 8” with “Arrow” star Stephen Amell.
The mobile streamer also added to its “Daily Essentials” lineup with “The Rachel Hollis Show” and “The Nod With Brittany & Eric.”
The Jeffrey Katzenberg-founded service begins April 6, 2020.
