Live Streaming Services Channel Comparison in 2020

With channels constantly changing, this is the most up-to-date channel comparison of those across the various Live TV Streaming Services. We compare locals, sports, news, entertainment, and top cable channels across services like AT&T TV NOW, fuboTV, Hulu Live TV, Sling TV, and YouTube TV.

While we previously included PlayStation Vue they shut down the service in January 2020. We have put together a list of the best alternatives to PS Vue.

Local Channels

Most services offer local ABC, CBS, Fox, and NBC channels. The “Sling Orange” $30 plan doesn’t include any local channels.

Local Availability

Even if a service offers live local channels, it may not offer the channels in your area. If you live in an area without live local channels, you still can still access the on demand content after it airs.

To see the local channels available in your area, we suggest that you enter your Zip Code in our Local Channel Finder.

Missing Channels

If you subscribe to a plan that doesn’t offer CBS, consider subscribing to CBS All Access $5.99. It’s a monthly subscription directly from CBS, which includes live streaming and on demand access for many of its shows.

You can get free access to CW shows with The CW apps with no subscription needed.

Top Cable Channels

fuboTV (60 US$) has 30 Top Cable Channels, more than any other service, but is missing ABC & ESPN — which are on all services except Philo and Sling TV “Blue”.

The service recently added Discovery and Viacom channels including Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, and VH1, but as of January 2020 lost Disney-owned FX, FXX, FXM, and Nat Geo.

Both Hulu Live TV (55 US$) and YouTube TV (65 US$) each offer 25-26 Top Cable Channels. With Hulu Live TV you get A&E, History, & Lifetime, while YouTube TV includes AMC, WE tv. Neither service offers channels from Viacom.

Since AT&T TV NOW (55 US$+) launched their new MAX and PLUS plan, they now have the weakest overall channel lineup, with just 23 of the Top 35 Cable Channels. The service is missing channels from AMC, A+E, and Discovery.

The two best value offerings are Philo (20 US$) with 18 Top Cable Channels or Sling TV’s “Blue” plan, which includes 24 Top Cable Channels for just (30 US$+) a month.

Sports Channels

Sports fans tend to have different needs; some want national sports channels like ESPN and TNT, but others want regional sports networks like YES Network, Fox Sports Detroit, or NBC Sports Bay Area.

With the shutdown of PlayStation Vue’s “Core” $55 plan, there isn’t a perfect plan for sports fans.

While fuboTV includes some RSNs including hard-to-get ones like MSG, NESN, and [AT&T SportsNet Houston], it’s currently without those from Fox Sports. It is also one of the only services with NFL Network and NFL RedZone, but is missing ESPN.

Sling TV is the best budget option for sports fans but includes ESPN in Sling Orange and NBCSN, FS1, NFL Network, and NBC Sports RSNs in Sling Blue. You can also add the Sports Extra pack ($10) to add channels like NFL RedZone and NHL Network, College Sports networks like SEC Network, ACC Network, and Pac-12 Network.

If you want to watch Fox Sports RSNs, you will need Hulu Live TV or AT&T TV NOW, which also include national sports channels like ESPN, FS1, NBCSN, TNT, and TBS. YouTube TV recently dropped YES Network, Fox Sports West, and Fox Sports Prime Ticket, but carry Fox Sports RSNs in other markets.

National Sports Channels

Most services include ESPN/ESPN2, NBCSN, FS1/FS2, TBS, and TNT in their basic packages.

Regional Sports Networks (RSNs)

fuboTV, Hulu Live TV, Sling TV “Blue”, and YouTube TV offer regional sports networks (RSNs) in their base plans. AT&T TV NOW requires an upgrade plan to access RSNs.

Due to contract disputes, fuboTV and Sling TV currently carry Fox Sports RSNs. YouTube TV no longer carries some of those RSNs including YES Network, Fox Sports West, and Fox Sports Prime Ticket.

Pro Sports

Most services don’t offer pro sports networks in their base plan.

If you’re purely an NFL fan, Sling TV offers NFL Network as part of their “Sling Blue” (30 US$+) plan. You can add the Sling’s “Sports Extra” $10 package, which includes NBA TV, NFL RedZone, and NHL Network.

If you don’t need ESPN, then “Sling Blue” with “Sports Extra” might be the cheapest combo $40 for NFL and NHL fans.

College Sports

The major college sports networks are ACC Network, Big Ten Network, CBS Sports Network, ESPNU, Pac-12 Network, and SEC Network.

Hulu Live TV (55 US$) and YouTube TV (65 US$) are strong options for college sports fans. Both services include Big Ten Network, CBS Sports Network, ESPNU, and SEC Network. These four channels are also available on DIRECTV NOW, but only on their upgraded MAX plan ($85).

fuboTV and Sling TV are the only providers of Pac-12 Network. It’s included in fuboTV base Plan (60 US$) or as part of Sling TV’s “Sports Extra” $5/$10 pack.

Other Sports Channels

While fuboTV‘s doesn’t have ESPN, it’s the ideal streaming service for soccer fans. It includes beIN in its base (60 US$) plan. You can add Fox Soccer Plus for only $6, which is usually a $15 upgrade on other services.

Premium Channels

Most of the streaming services offer premium channels like Cinemax, HBO, Showtime, and Starz as add-ons to your subscription.

AT&T TV NOW includes HBO in their PLUS plan and adds Cinemax in their MAX plan, which might be cheaper than what HBO offers directly with HBO NOW ($15).

Hulu Live TV, fuboTV, Sling TV, and YouTube TV all offer Showtime for $10–$11 a month, or you could subscribe to Showtime on Amazon for the same price.
