Amazon Fire TV Adds YouTube TV and Hulu + Live TV to Universal Grid Guide

Fern Siegel

Amazon Fire TV wants to enhance the live TV experience by better integrating Hulu Live TV, Sling TV and YouTube TV.

The streamers join nearly 20 other integrated apps, including Sling TV, Philo, Pluto TV and Amazon Prime Video Channel. Sling TV began rolling out earlier this year, while YouTube TV starts its integration today, and Hulu + Live TV joining in the coming weeks.

The goal is to make it easier for users to find content.

Live content from the three providers will be directly integrated into Fire TV’s live TV discovery features: Live Tab, On Now Rows and multi-app Channel Guide, which includes Alexa.

“We believe the future of Connected TV is one that brings live content forward, simplifies the streaming and OTT landscape, and enables customers to discover the programs they want to watch with ease,” adds Sandeep Gupta, VP of Fire TV.

Since launching the live TV discovery integration, live streaming apps on Fire TV have seen the total time spent in apps and active customers more than double, per the company.

Philo’s integration began rolling out last year. Since then, according to Andrew McCollum, Philo CEO: “The number of active Philo users is up nearly 2.5x on Fire TV.”

Once users are logged into any integrated live streaming apps or channels, it unlocks additional Alexa functionality by using Alexa Voice Remote, Fire TV Cube with Alexa built-in, or a paired Echo device. The commands: “Alexa, open the channel guide.” To change the channel: “Alexa, tune to [name of channel].”
