Amazon Rolls Out Prime Video App for Windows 10 Devices

Amazon has introduced a dedicated Prime Video app for Windows 10 devices worldwide, the company announced Thursday. Those devices include desktop PCs, laptops and tablets.

With the app, Windows 10 users can stream content online or download it for offline viewing – they previously had to watch from their browsers. The app experience is effectively identical to the browser experience.

The Prime Video Windows 10 app also supports search and browse functionality and in-app purchases (paid purchases/rentals and Prime Video Channels subscriptions).

Users will have access to any of the 150-plus Prime Video Channels they might subscribe to in the app, including HBO, Showtime, Starz and Cinemax. They can also view IMDb information about actors, songs, and trivia for videos as they stream with Amazon’s “X-Ray” function.

Last month, Amazon Prime Video joined Hulu in rolling out an official “Watch Party” function – a social viewing experience for desktop users. Amazon’s feature is only available in the U.S. and supports up to 100 participants in a chat session with synchronized playback of their favorite Prime Video shows.

Popular third-party apps like NetflixParty and Scener that have done the same for services like Netflix and HBO.
