Amazon Slated to Produce Cooking Show With James May of ‘The Grand Tour’

It looks like Amazon Prime Video will be venturing into the culinary world with a new series starring English presenter James May. According to Deadline, the e-commerce giant is partnering up with “The Grand Tour” star for a series “about his culinary experiments in a cookery show made by his long-time collaborators at Plum Pictures.”

May has previously expressed interest in the culinary world and even appeared on YouTube’s “FoodTribe,” as well as Gordon Ramsay’s “The F Word.” According to Deadline, some production began on May’s own show before the pandemic shutdown productions around the world earlier this year. The series — whose working title is “James May ‘Oh Cook!” — is reported to be six episodes in length.

Before the pandemic struck, May was also working on a separate project for Amazon titled “James May: Our Man in Japan” which chronicled his travels around Japan. He was also slated to shoot another “Grand Tour” special, but that has been postponed until next year.

Prime Video has been on a mission to diversify their library. Just yesterday, news came out that the streaming service Amazon Prime Video will feature the upcoming tennis documentary “Unraveling Athena” to select European countries, Deadline reports. The streaming service struck a deal with Kaleidoscope and will bring the film to their subscribers in the UK, Germany, France, Italy and the Netherlands.

“Unraveling Athena” chronicles the pitfalls and triumphs of some of tennis’ most decorated women players, including 20 former number ones. The film features Billie Jean King, Martina Hingis, Tracy Austin, Evonne Goolagong, Kim Clijsters, Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova, Arantxa Sánchez-Vicario, Monica Seles, Venus Williams, Caroline Wozniacki, Ana Ivanovic, Justine Henin, Jelena Jankovic and Victoria Azarenka.
