Amazon Taps Maya Rudolph and Natasha Lyonne for New Animated Series

Amazon has recruited Maya Rudolph and Natasha Lyonne’s production company, Animal Pictures, along with “Russian Doll” supervising producer Cirocco Dunlap, for an upcoming animated series titled “The Hospital.”

“The series will follow Sleech and Klak, two brilliant alien doctors who specialize in rare sci-fi illnesses. When Sleech defies protocol and contracts a disease from another dimension, the heroes must find a cure before the universe is destroyed,” Variety reported.

“The Hospital” will serve as the first official project from Animal Pictures since signing its first-look deal with Amazon. The company was founded by Rudolph and Lyonne back in 2018.

Amazon originals have been made their mark the last couple of years, even becoming top contenders at major award shows. Just last week, the streamer came away with three SAG Awards, the most for a streaming service this year.

“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” came away with a win in the Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series category, with Tony Shalhoub winning Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series for his role as Abe Weissman. Phoebe Waller-Bridge brought it home for “Fleabag” as she walked away as the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series winner.
