AMC Networks who owns channels like AMC and BBC America announced today that they have acquired RLJ Entertainment — the parent company of OTT-branded channels Acorn TV and The Urban Movie Channel.
Acorn TV, known for its high-quality British and international content, and UMC (Urban Movie Channel), the first subscription video-on-demand service created for African American and urban audience.
The services have a combined 800,000 subscribers increasing over 100,000 since the beginning of the year and 45% from a year ago. The service is available on Amazon Channels, Xfinity On Demand, and directly on their own websites.
The deal which is a combination of cash and stock valued RLJ Entertainment at ~$274 million.
