Apple TV Plus Acquires Second Israeli Drama ‘Losing Alice’

Apple is once again diversifying their content offerings as they have acquired the global rights to neo-noir Israeli thriller “Losing Alice.” According to Deadline, the tech giant has teamed up with Dori Media to bring the eight-part series, which is currently airing in Israel, to Apple TV+.

“Losing Alice” follows the titular character (played by Ayelet Zurer), a female director who feels insecure in her abilities after starting a family. Alice then meets a young screenwriter, Sophie (Lihi Kornowski), who triggers her “jealousy, guilt and a fear of aging,” Deadline noted. The series was created, written and directed by Sigal Avin.

“Losing Alice” is Apple’s second series from Israel. Earlier this year, the company also signed on to co-produce Israel-Iran espionage thriller “Tehran.”

In May, reports came out stating that Apple was preparing to boost Apple TV+’s library with some old school content. According to Bloomberg’s sources, the company already bought inventory, various movies and TV shows, though no official titles were disclosed.

The overall goal for the company was to increase its subscription base. Ten million people signed up, as of February; only half were regular users, Bloomberg noted. Conversely, Disney+ has passed the 50 million-subscriber mark, while Netflix has nearly 70 million subscribers in the U.S. alone.
