Apple TV+ Will Be Cheaper in Canada Than US, More Expensive in Europe, Japan, & Australia, But Only $1.38 in India

Yesterday Apple announced that they will be launching Apple TV+ on November 1st in over 100 countries. While they shared the $4.99 pricing in the U.S. on stage, they didn’t say how much it would cost at launch in other countries.

The biggest surprise comes from India, where they are pricing it at INR 99/month ($1.38), which is half the price of Netflix’s mobile-only plan of INR 199/month ($2.88), which only streams in 480p. It is also cheaper than Amazon Prime Video which costs $2/month ($15 a year), but pricier than Hotstar VIP ($5 per year) and Hotstar Premium (~$15 per year) which include live cricket, Premier League, Formula 1, and the latest episodes of American & Indian TV.

In Canada, the service will cost $5.99 CAD ($4.54) a month, which is less than the $8.99 CAD a month for Disney+, $13.99 CAD for Netflix, or $6.58 CAD ($79 / year) for Amazon Prime, which includes Prime Video. In the UK, Apple+ will be £4.99/month ($6.15) and 4.99€ ($5.50) in the rest of Europe, which compares to £8.99 and €11.99 respectively for Netflix, and €6.99 for Disney+. Australia will see it priced at A$7.99 / month ($5.48) compared to $13.99 for Netflix and $8.99AUD for Disney+. In Japan, the service is priced for 600 JPY ($5.57) compared to 1,200 JPY for Netflix.

Unlike Disney+ which is rolling out their service internationally over the next 2+ years, Apple TV+ will launch in 100 countries simultaneously. Since Apple TV+ only includes new originals and no library content, they don’t have to re-aquire rights to content that they may have sold off in other countries.
