CBSN Extends Global Reach to 89 Countries

CBSN, the free 24/7 digital streaming news service, has hammered out OTT deals with 89 countries.

Specifically, the service will now stream in 34 European Union countries, including France, Germany and the UK, and 55 non-EU nations, such as China, Brazil, Mexico and New Zealand.

The global show is the same one seen in the U.S.

A key reason for the expansion is to capitalize on reach, garnering more digital ad dollars for CBSN.

Christy Tanner, EVP-GM, CBS News Digital, stated: “With CBSN’s expanded availability in international app stores, we can now deliver vital, in-depth coverage on urgent and pivotal news events to more viewers in more places.”

In fact, the CBSN audience hit a record with over 100 million streams in March. The brand has expanded into 10 local markets in the U.S. CBSN Minneapolis and CBSN Dallas-Fort Worth are the latest launches.

The platform is available globally on web browsers, but will also be distributed in regional app stores for Amazon Fire TV, Android, Android TV, Apple TV, iOS mobile apps, Chromecast and Chromecast built-in devices, LG Smart TVs, as well as VIZIO SmartCast in the U.S. and Canada.

The service debuted in November 2014 and now offers Originals documentary series, such as “Lifelines in the Lockdown” and “Rising Tide: Priced Out in Miami.”
