Discovery Officially Launches Food Network Kitchen Streaming Service, In Collaboration With Amazon

Discovery’s peloton for cooking, Food Network Kitchen officially launched in the U.S. today. Though Discovery CEO David Zaslav first hinted at the streaming service back in May, the company officially announced its arrival in September.

Food Network Kitchen is launched in collaboration with Amazon. The service is available through Amazon Alexa and Echo Show, Fire Tablets, Fire TV streaming media devices and Fire TV Edition smart TVs. (It can also be found on Apple iOS and Android mobile devices.)

Under Discovery’s three-year agreement with Amazon, Food Network Kitchen will be integrated with Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant to provide hands-free navigation while users are making their meals. Alexa is also the exclusive voice service for Food Network Kitchen under the partnership. The collaboration with Amazon also allows Food Network Kitchen users to order groceries and have them delivered through Amazon Fresh in select cities as well as Peapod and Instacart.

The platform will also bring over 800 on-demand cooking classes with the world’s greatest chefs to consumers. On-demand lessons will be updated daily, with Food Network Kitchen offering a hefty selection of 3,000 instructional videos, including step-by-step videos by Michelin-star chefs, James Beard award-winners, bestselling cookbook authors, and restaurateurs from Panna, the award-winning digital cooking app, which was recently acquired by Discovery.

Rachael Ray’s 30 Minute Meals will make its way back to the Food Network on Nov. 9 and Food Network Kitchen subscribers will be able to access all 10 episodes of the new season, as well as take live classes with Ray on the app every day the week of Nov. 11.

Exclusive content on the service will include Restaurant Insights which will feature Food Network chefs; World Kitchen which will have chefs and food from all over the world; as well as personalized content playlists. Food Network shows such as Barefoot Contessa, Brunch @ Bobby’s, Girl Meets Farm, Good Eats, Guy’s Ranch Kitchen and The Pioneer Woman, will be available ad-free.

During the holiday season, subscribers will be able to use the app to access recipe instructions from the network’s primetime seasonal series such as Christmas Cookie Challenge, Holiday Baking Championship, Holiday Gingerbread Tournament, Holiday Wars, Santa’s Baking Blizzard, Ultimate Hanukkah Challenge and Ultimate Thanksgiving Challenge.

Next year, Food Network Kitchen plans on adding features including a 24-hour culinary support hotline (with live experts on the phone) and culinary equipment delivery through Amazon.

Food Network Kitchen is available for a 90-day free trial period. Afterwards, consumers can sign-up for free for limited access or subscribe to the full service for $6.99/month or $59.99/year. There is a limited-time discounted rate of $4/month or $47.99/year. Food Network Kitchen will roll out across additional platforms and devices in 2020.
