It seems Disney is adding “The Mighty Ducks” to its list of reboots that will air on Disney+. According to a report by Discussing Film, a “‘Mighty Ducks’ reboot series is going forward and will release on Disney+.” Production is aiming to begin in February 2020 in Vancouver.
Last year, The Hollywood Reporter said that the series was in development at ABC Studios. Steven Brill, who wrote the original 1992 film for Disney, was cited as one of the executive producers on the show, but Emilio Estevez, who played Gordon Bombay in the film, was not attached to the project as a script hadn’t been written yet.
“The Mighty Ducks” will join other popular Disney reboots such as “Lizzie McGuire” and “High School Musical: The Series.” When it launches on Nov. 12, Disney+ will debut an original slate of programming, including an eight-episode Star Wars series from Jon Favreau. The first year will include 25 new original series, 10+ movies, 7,500 past episodes, 100 recent movies and 400 library titles including the entire Disney vault. Previously, many of those new releases and library films would have gone to Netflix as part of a distribution deal that started in 2016.
