Disney+ Reaches #1 in App Store During Netherlands “Early Launch”

After announcing an early test on Android, PS4, Xbox, & iOS for those living in the Netherlands, Disney+ has now reached the top of the charts. The streaming app is now the #1 App in the Entertainment category, as well as the entire iOS App Store. It’s surpassed apps like Google Maps, WhatsApp, Instagram, Spotify, and Snapchat.

During the test, customers in the Netherlands will get access to Disney+ for free, until the service officially launches on November 12th. While the App has access to the library content customers will get like movies from Disney Animation, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and Nat Geo — it doesn’t have any of the original content like The Mandalorian.

Starting with the 2019 theatrical slate, all Disney/Pixar/Marvel/Star Wars films will become exclusive to Disney+ meaning movies like the live-action versions of Aladdin, The Lion King, Captain Marvel, and Avengers: Endgame will only be available to stream on Disney+.

The first year will include 25 new original series, 10+ movies, 7,500 past episodes, 100 recent movies, and 400 library titles including the entire Disney Vault. Previously, many of those new releases and library films would have gone to Netflix as part of a distribution deal that started in 2016.

When the service does launch for $6.99 a month, it will offer 4K streaming, four simultaneous streamers, unlimited downloads on up to 10 devices, and up to 7 profiles with hundreds of avatars.

Last month, we able to get a walkthrough of the Disney+ Apple TV app, which has the elegance and beauty that you would expect from Disney. The app is straight-forward, snappy, and has incredible imagery throughout.

On top of the Disney+ app, there is a carousel of featured content, with animated tiles for each of Disney’s properties below. Tapping on a tile takes you to an exclusive experience designed for that content, like Pixar or Marvel. When you’re in an individual section, you can see featured shows and movies, as well as personalized recommendations based on your watch history.
