In Latest Beta, Apple TV Channels Adds Support for HBO Meaning You Can Stream Game of Thrones for Free

Jason Gurwin

In late March, Apple announced their highly anticipated Amazon Prime Video Channels competitor called Apple TV Channels coming via a software update this May. Users will be able to subscribe to 25+ premium partners including HBO, Showtime, Starz, EPIX, Cinemax, and CBS All Access directly from the app.

For the last month, those on tvOS 12.3 Beta have been to try out the new Apple TV Channels feature with select service like Showtime, STARZ, Smithsonian Channel Plus, and Tastemade.

However, today — Apple quietly added support for HBO meaning that you can binge your way through previous seasons of Game of Thrones, or catch the final three episodes of the series. They now have support for 11 channels including Cinemax, EPIX, Sundance Now, Lifetime Movie Club, and UMC.

How to Subscribe to HBO using Apple TV Channels

Just like though other services like Amazon Prime Channels and The Roku Channel, you can subscribe to HBO for $14.99 a month, after a 7-Day Free Trial. The app will allow you subscribe and stream HBO from inside the app. The premium subscriptions can be used with Family Sharing meaning you can share your subscriptions with up to five people in your household.

When the service launches in May, you’ll also be able to subscribe to Comedy Central Now, Curiosity Stream, Lifetime Movie Club, Acorn TV, Britbox, Noggin, MTV Hits, and Shudder. The Apple TV App will be available across smart TVs and streaming players starting with Samsung this Spring. It will be coming to other devices including LG, Sony, and VIZIO, as well as Roku and Fire TV players later this year.
