The popular Netflix “Play Something” and “Fast Laughs” features are going to be rolling out this week to Android devices around the world.
While Play Something rolls out immediately to all Android mobile devices globally, Fast Laughs will be rolling out in selected markets around the world later this week.
The feature, which instantly plays new and relevant shows for customers’ immediate viewing pleasure on their TVs, was initially launched in April. According to Netflix officials, the Play Something feature looks at your interests to present a random show or movie that you’ve never seen before.
While not a true randomizer, the feature does simplify the task of deciding what to watch when presented with the myriad of titles Netflix has to offer.
“Play Something helps Netflix members discover new shows and movies when they don’t want to make decisions,” said Patrick Flemming, Netflix’s Director of Public Information. “Today, we’re excited to bring this feature to Android, too - choosing what to watch on your phone has never been easier.”
Netflix officials said they will be testing the feature on the iOS platform in the coming months.
This is just one of a new series of updates from Netflix geared to helping improve the mobile viewing experience.
“Fast Laughs” rolls out this week for Android members in selected markets around the world. That feature — which initially rolled out for iOS viewers in the US, Canada, the UK, and Australia in March — gives members the opportunity to quickly and easily scroll through a fresh feed of short comedy clips from the full Netflix catalog.
“We’re always looking for new ways to entertain and make discovery easier for members,” Flemming said. “We’re excited to introduce Fast Laughs - a new full-screen feed of funny clips from a wide variety of Netflix titles, ranging from films and series to our deep bench of stand-up specials.”
Fast Laughs will be available in the US, Canada, UK, Australia, Ireland, India, Malaysia, the Philippines, and other select markets.
Other features Netflix is rolling out include:
- “Downloads For You” give Android members the opportunity to opt-in to automatically download recommended titles to their device based on viewing tastes. The feature will be available for iOS members later this month.
- “Play Partial Downloads” allows Android and iOS members to start the playback of a title before it has completed downloading.
- “Top 10 For All Profiles” helps mobile members discover the top 10 most popular titles from their country for that particular day.
Netflix officials said that all of these mobile features are designed to give viewers more options and an easier means to discover more content more readily from anywhere, worldwide.
