Reese Witherspoon will narrate and appear in a docuseries for Quibi called “Fierce Queens,” about strong females in nature. The mobile streamer is set to launch April 6.
The series is from the BBC Studios Natural History Unit and examines female animals — from hyenas to fireflies to humpback whales that tell dramatic nature stories from a female perspective.
Witherspoon recently starred on the Apple TV+ series “The Morning Show” and HBO’s “Big Little Lies.” Next up for the Oscar winner is the sci-fi film “Pyros” on Netflix.
Also on Quibi’s slate is a new show by comedian-actor Bill Burr (“Breaking Bad,” Netflix’s “F is for Family.”) Burr is tapped to write, direct and star in “Immortal Compass.” Based on Tyler Falbo’s digital shorts, the show is billed as an outrageous psychological thriller series, revealing how far people will go to get what they want.
Each “Compass” episode opens with characters having to choose between unethical decisions and their own desires.
The All Comedy Network, cofounded by Burr, will also executive produce with Irwin Entertainment.
Quibi founders Jeffrey Katzenberg and CEO Meg Whitman have enlisted an array of top talent, including Guillermo del Toro, Catherine Hardwick and Steven Spielberg, who is writing a horror series. The streamer says it will roll out 175 original shows.
