Sundance NOW and Shudder May Have Accidentally Exposed Your User Information

According to a security researcher, 1.6 million subscribers to AMC Networks premium streaming services, Sundance NOW and Shudder, had their data accidentally exposed. The report shares that no sensitive information, like your password, was shared, but the data did include personal information like included names, emails, and subscription details.

A smaller number of users (440,000) had the data linked to their IP address, as well as details of their streaming devices. A little over 3,330 subscribers had the data linked to Stripe invoices which included the last 4-digits of their credit card.

The researcher, Bob Diachenko of Security Discovery, alerted AMC Networks of the issue. The company has said that the database has been secured and is no longer publicly accessible.

In a statement, AMC Networks shared:

“We became aware of an issue regarding access to an internal development database, which was primarily used for catalogue data along with certain other non-sensitive subscriber information, and we immediately took action to close off this access. We are taking steps to make sure this doesn’t happen again.”
