Toni Collette has been cast as the lead on Netflix’s upcoming thriller series “Pieces of Her.”
The series, with an eight-episode order, is set in a small Georgia town. A violent act kick-starts a chain of events for a 30-year-old woman and her mother, Laura, played by the Emmy-winning Collette (“Heredity,” “Lucky Them,” “United States of Tara”).
Based on Karin Slaughter’s 2018 novel, the series deals with the fallout from violence and a search for hidden identity. “When the ghosts of Laura’s past put her life in jeopardy, we discover there is more to Laura than meets the eye,” according to Netflix.
Minkie Spiro (“Fosse/Verdon,” “Downton Abbey”) will direct the series, while Charlotte Stoudt (“Homeland”) will both write the scripts and serve as showrunner.
Previously, Collette played a detective in Netflix’s miniseries “Unbelievable.” The role earned her Golden Globe and SAG Award nominations.
In addition, Katharine McPhee has signed on to star in Netflix’s “Country Comfort,” a 10-episode series. McPhee (“Smash,” “Scorpio”) plays a struggling country singer. Eddie Cibrian co-stars. Netflix also announced it has signed Adam Sandler to four more movies.
