VIZIO Now Supports Disney Plus Using Built-In Chromecast, but Only at 720p

It seems Disney+ users who own VIZIO devices can now start casting the app onto their TVs. Users on Reddit are reporting that VIZIO Disney+ casting has just started working on their devices, nearly two weeks after its launch. However, though the feature is finally available, it’s only outputting up to 720p, with no 4K UHD or 1080p HD. As of right now, no firmware update is required and it appears Disney relaxed the requirements to stream via Cast. A firmware update with full support is still coming.

How to Cast/AirPlay Disney Plus on Vizio Smart TVs

Currently Disney+ is only supported on 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019 VIZIO SmartCast TVs which include Built-in Chromecast or AirPlay 2 support. There is no native VIZIO SmartCast App for Disney+

  5. Start playing a movie or show on the Disney+ App and select the AirPlay or Cast icon in the top right

This is the latest feature to roll out post-launch for Disney+. Last week, Disney+ started adding “Resume” and “Restart” features to its platform. When it first launched, the app crashed due to millions of subscribers trying to log in at once. This reportedly led to some glitches in the app and removal of certain features.

The company started rolling out the “Resume” and “Restart” features back onto the service after users complained that their absence made looking for shows, as well as continuing a series, a bit difficult. But these features still weren’t accessible for many users at the time. Options such as “Continue Watching” on the home page as well as “Autoplay” were yet to be enabled for the app, even though they were reportedly tested during the Netherlands beta launch.

When Disney+ launched on Nov. 12, it was downloaded 3.2 million times to mobile devices and garnered 1.3 million hours of viewership in its first 24 hours, according to Apptopia. Despite the hiccups, the streaming service reached 10 million subscribers merely 24-hours post launch.
