Amazon Expands Accessibility Features With New Text Banner for Fire TV

Amazon has just added a new accessibility feature. The e-commerce giant announced they launched Text Banner for Fire TV, aimed at assisting users with a narrow field of vision. The feature will be beneficial for users with eye conditions such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, and retinitis pigmentosa.

Text Banner aggregates onscreen text into a compact, written banner that appears in a fixed location on the screen. The entire Fire TV user interface, Prime Video, and other applications work with Text Banner, making it easier for these customers to enjoy movies, videos, and more. Text Banner can be enabled within Settings under Accessibility.

Just last month, Amazon Prime Video revealed they are now allowing subscribers to create user profiles. Prime Video now allows you to “create and manage multiple profiles within your account with content personalized separately to each profile.” Users can have up to six profiles on one account, and each profile will have its own recommendations, watch history, etc. based on individual preferences.

Prime Video users can create their profiles through the Prime Video website, on the Android and iOS versions of the Prime Video app, 10th-gen or higher Fire tablets, the Prime Video app for Fire TV and select devices, such as PlayStation 4.

Back in April, Amazon also launched #AtHome, a new destination on Fire TV and Fire Tablet devices in the U.S. The feature aggregates content from a host of Amazon’s content partners and makes searching for content easier.

At the height of the pandemic, as films were streaming early, premium content becoming available for free and many services offering extended free trials, finding content became a bit tasking. With #AtHome, content is organized under categories such “Stay Informed” or “New and Trending,” narrowing down the search process.
