Amazon Names Sam Claflin as Frontman for ‘Daisy Jones and the Six’

Amazon Prime’s series “Daisy Jones and the Six” has tapped Sam Claflin (“The Hunger Games,” “The Pirates of the Caribbean”) to star in the 12-episode musical drama.

He joins Riley Keough (“Magic Mike,” “The Girlfriend Experience”) in the series, based on the bestseller by Taylor Jenkins Reid, notes Variety. Keough, in the lead role, is also Elvis’ granddaughter. The story, presented in documentary style, chronicles the rise of a rock band in the 1970s.

Claflin portrays Billy Dunne, the band’s frontman with feelings for Daisy, his songwriting partner. Daisy is a child of privileged, but indifferent parents, who comes of age in the Los Angeles music scene and skyrockets to superstardom.

Reese Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter, head of film and TV at the Oscar-winner’s Hello Sunshine media company, will executive produce, along with Brad Mendelsohn. Showrunner Will Graham created the first pilot for Amazon Studios, “The Onion Presents: The News.” He was executive producer for the third season of Amazon’s “Mozart in the Jungle.”

Claflin joined the cast of “Peaky Blinders” last season and also starred in the 2019 “Charlie’s Angels” reboot.
